A curated collection of calligraphy, lettering, and illuminated manuscripts — each piece made entirely by hand in Tbilisi.
A small selection of original artworks and fine art prints available for purchase. Each piece is signed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Every piece begins long before ink touches paper. Georgian calligraphy is a practice of patience, rooted in centuries of manuscript tradition.
Each commission begins with a conversation — about the text, its meaning, and the context in which it will live. I study historical references relevant to the script style requested and sketch several layout proposals before any ink is prepared.
The choice of support — vellum, cotton rag, or hemp paper — shapes everything that follows. Skins are stretched and prepared with pumice. Inks are ground or brewed from historical recipes: iron gall, walnut, lampblack, and natural pigments sourced from Georgian suppliers wherever possible.
Lines are ruled with a bone folder or agate burnisher directly on the support — no pencil marks. The spacing of ascenders and descenders, the relationship of interlinear space to x-height: these proportions follow the same mathematical ratios found in 12th-century Georgian manuscripts.
The writing itself happens in sustained sessions, never rushed. A broad-edge nib held at a consistent pen angle produces the characteristic thick-thin contrast of historical scripts. Corrections are made by scraping with a knife, as medieval scribes did — no white-out, no digital fixes.
When a commission calls for gold, glair (egg white) or gum ammoniac is applied as the adhesive layer. Gold leaf — 23.5 karat — is laid and burnished to a mirror finish with an agate stone. Shell gold is mixed fresh from powder for fine detail work.
Finished works are window-matted with archival materials and wrapped in tissue. Originals are shipped in rigid mailers with tracking. Each piece is accompanied by documentation of materials used and care instructions for long-term preservation.
Every commission is unique. Whether a single word or a full manuscript page, the work begins with your vision and is realised entirely by hand.

I am a calligrapher and lettering artist based in Tbilisi, Georgia. My practice is grounded in the study of historical scripts — particularly the ancient Georgian alphabets Asomtavruli and Nuskhuri, alongside the Western manuscript traditions of medieval and Renaissance Europe.
I trained at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and later undertook independent research into manuscript collections in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and at the British Library in London. The tension between these two traditions — Georgian and European — is the creative space I inhabit.
Each piece I make is entirely handmade: the ink brewed, the vellum scraped, the gold burnished by hand. I do not use digital tools to plan or execute work — only historical instruments, historical recipes, and time.
I accept a limited number of commissions each year and teach occasional workshops in Tbilisi. If you are interested in working together, I would be glad to hear from you.
